Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the benefits of football scholarship and volunteering for the community. In the first place Selmon was raised with Lucious and Jessie Selmon on the farm close to Eufala located in Oklahoma as the eldest of the nine children they had. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. In the three years that Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. He received a third scholarship in 1975 and selected as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon obtained his diploma in education. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week while he attended college. He settled down in Tampa following college. He was a member of the Buccaneers for nine seasons and was three-times all-pro. The business venture he started began. In 1988, as an account liaison officer for First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6'2 inches. In his time at for college, he was the head coach of the 1975 team. In 1993, Roy joined at the University of South Fla's athletic department as Director of Athletics as an associate. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
